The Ohio Senate has approved Senate Bill 152, which is aimed at streamlining wildlife control by allowing employees at wildlife rehabilitation facilities to obtain a limited license for euthanizing animals. The bill was sponsored by Senator Andrew Brenner from Delaware.

Brenner stated, "Rather than having to wait on an overwhelmed veterinarian, this bill allows a wild animal rehabilitation facility to have access to medications necessary for the humane euthanasia of severely injured or diseased wildlife." He emphasized that the legislation ensures these facilities can provide the best care for native wildlife in Ohio and expressed gratitude towards his colleagues for their support.

Senate Bill 152 proposes adding wild animal rehabilitation facilities to the list of entities permitted access to medications needed for humane euthanasia of animals that cannot be rehabilitated. It mandates compliance with safety standards required for other entities with access to such medications, including maintaining personnel who have completed a euthanasia technician certification course.

The bill will now proceed to the Ohio House for further deliberation.
