State Rep. Beth Lear | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Beth Lear from Galena announced the passage of House Bill 65, known as the Agriculture Appreciation Act, by the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill received unanimous backing from the legislative body.
This new legislation recognizes several key agriculture-related weeks and days in Ohio law: FFA Week in the last full week of February, 4-H Week ending on the second Saturday of March, National Farmers Market Week in the first full week of August, Ohio Soil Health Week in the second full week of November, Stormwater Awareness Week in the first full week of October, Agriculture Day on March 21st, and Farmer’s Day on October 12th.
"As a 4-H who grew up in a mostly rural area of Delaware County, I know how important agriculture is to our community and our state," Lear stated. "Passing this bill today means getting more exposure for farmers and ranchers and the necessity of their work. It was an honor to support HB 65."
Agriculture is the largest industry in Ohio, contributing over $100 billion to the economy and employing one out of seven Ohioans. The state hosts more than 75,000 farms, with 90% family-owned operations.
