House Bill 8, known as the Parents' Bill of Rights, is set to be reviewed by the Governor. State Senator Andrew Brenner from Delaware has expressed his support for this legislation.
The bill aims to strengthen parents' rights in their children's education. It mandates public schools to establish a policy for parental notification regarding student academic performance, mental and physical health, well-being, and instructional materials that include sexuality content. An amendment was made during committee with Senate Bill 293, which requires school districts to create policies permitting students to be excused from school for religious instruction courses.
"Parents deserve to understand what is happening with their child during the school day," stated Brenner. "I am glad to see this piece of legislation make it across the finish line and allow families to choose what is best for them and their family."
