The Ohio Senate has approved House Bill 432, which aims to simplify the process for obtaining a career-technical educator license. The bill received support from State Senator Andrew Brenner of Delaware.
"This bill cuts red tape for those looking to become a career-tech educator and sets them up to be successful in the classroom," stated Brenner.
House Bill 432 allows individuals seeking to become career-tech instructors to apply directly for a license without needing an employment offer first. The bill also introduces an alternative licensure program that can be set up by approved local career-technical institutions.
"As Ohio's manufacturing industry grows, we have more jobs to fill and more students that are seeking a career-tech education. It is vital that those seeking this education have the opportunity to learn and are not turned away due to a shortage of educators in the field," said Brenner.
Additionally, House Bill 432 includes amendments to Senate Bill 29, a student privacy law. These changes will aid in parental notifications and clarify roles concerning technology providers, reducing the number of notifications sent to parents significantly.
The legislation now proceeds to the Ohio House for further consideration.
