State Representative Brian Lorenz has introduced a bill to the House State and Local Government Committee aimed at prohibiting homeowner associations from restricting political yard signs. The proposed legislation seeks to expand current laws that prevent associations from limiting certain flag displays, extending these protections to political signs.

According to Lorenz, the initiative addresses free speech concerns. "This is a free speech issue," he stated. "Sometimes HOAs can become overzealous and overstep their bounds. This legislation will ensure people’s rights to support their party or candidate of choice are protected with the same level of protection as speech or expression outside of politics."

The bill stipulates that political yard signs must comply with state and local regulations and not infringe on state or federal hate crime laws. Further hearings in the committee are anticipated.
