Congressman Troy Balderson of Ohio has introduced a bill to rename the post office in Philo, Ohio, in honor of Samuel J. Mitchell Jr., who served as the postmaster for 52 years. Mitchell, who passed away in 2023, was remembered by Balderson as someone who dedicated his life to service in various capacities. Balderson stated, "To the Philo community, Sam meant the world. He dedicated his life to service as a postmaster, veteran, and a neighborhood volunteer, touching countless lives along the way."

The Mayor of Philo, Ohio, Troy Coen, also expressed his admiration for Mitchell, saying, "Sam was a true pillar to the Village of Philo, being the postmaster for many, many years he gave everyone the hometown feeling at the post office." Steve Tyo, 1st Vice President of the Duncan Falls-Philo Lions Club, highlighted Mitchell's contributions to the community, stating, "Sam Mitchell was an active member of the Duncan Falls-Philo Lions Club. He was very helpful, especially on the scholarship committee and on highway cleanup."

Terry Moore, Chief of the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, shared his thoughts on Mitchell's dedication, saying, "Sam served the residents of Philo for 52 years at the Post Office. You could always count on a smile and friendly service from Sam." The bill introduced by Congressman Balderson has garnered support from several co-sponsors, including Representatives Max Miller, Greg Landsman, Mike Carey, Brad Wenstrup, Bob Latta, Jim Jordan, and Joyce Beatty.

The bill, known as H.R.7768, will now be reviewed by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. If approved by the committee, the bill will proceed to the House floor for further consideration.
