Congressman Troy Balderson (R-OH) has expressed his support for the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act, a bill aimed at preventing the ban of gas-powered vehicles. The bill, of which Balderson is an original co-sponsor, was introduced as a response to California's decision to eliminate the sale of new internal combustion vehicles by 2035.

In a statement on the House floor, Balderson criticized California's approach, stating, "Lawmakers in California want to outright ban the sale of new vehicles with an internal combustion engine. They are fed up with the pace of the free market, and they want to force consumers to switch to more expensive electric vehicles."

The Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act seeks to restrict the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from granting waivers that would allow such bans. If the California waiver is approved, it could potentially pave the way for other states to adopt similar standards.

House Republicans, including Balderson, believe that consumers should have the freedom to choose the type of vehicle that best suits their needs. The bill received bipartisan support and passed the House with a vote of 222-190.

Balderson's comments on the House floor can be found on his official website.

This bill represents a significant development in the ongoing debate surrounding the future of transportation and the role of gas-powered vehicles. While proponents of electric vehicles argue that they are more environmentally friendly, opponents, like Balderson, maintain that consumers should have the option to purchase the vehicle that aligns with their preferences and budget.

As the bill moves forward, it will be interesting to see how the discussion evolves and whether other states will follow California's lead in implementing similar bans.
