Friday Refuse Collection Suspended | City of Delaware
Winter Weather and Friday Trash Collection Update:
Public Works and Public Utilities are preparing for the potential of ice and snow to cover the city with this approaching storm. With temps rapidly dropping overnight, we could see a "flash freeze" on wet surfaces and then snow after that. Thursday night, prior to the transition, we will be salting roadways, beginning with Priority 1 and 2 streets. The 10 salt/plow trucks will be maneuvering throughout our great city for the duration of the event. Please give them space and if possible, park vehicles off the roadway. As always, please try to stay off the roads as conditions deteriorate. When temperatures drop to the low single digits, salt is not as effective at melting ice. With the potential of extreme low temps, the roads can still be icy, even with salt on the ground. Please be patient and as the temperatures begin to rise, the salt will begin to melt the ice again.
Friday Refuse Collection: Our refuse team is suspending Friday curbside collections due to the approaching storm. The decision was made now, based on the best available information, rather than wait until early tomorrow morning when bins and toters already would be at curbside. Crews will collect the route next week when, because of the Christmas holiday, collections crews will be on the “next day” schedule, Tuesday through Saturday.
Also, for December 27-31, additional non-tagged bags of holiday refuse placed outside of the tipcarts will be collected at curbside. This includes packaging and cardboard boxes that are broken down flat.
If you have a refuse question, email pwcs@delawareohio.et, phone 740-203-1810 or use our Del-AWARE service ap.
