Remembering Retired K9 Fiji

1

City of Westerville recently issued the following announcement.

We are sad to announce the passing of retired Westerville Division of Police K9 Fiji after a brave battle with cancer. Fiji served the Westerville community alongside WPD Lt. Bryan Schwartz for about seven years. She retired in 2020.

Fiji was a skilled tracker specializing in the detection of narcotics, tracking, area and article searches, criminal apprehension and handler protection.

The Belgian Malinois responded to nearly 1,200 calls for service, resulting in the seizure and investigation of more than $2 million in illegal narcotics and U.S. currency related to narcotics investigations.

An award-winning duo, Fiji and Lt. Schwartz earned 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals at various competitions showcasing K9 teams. We thank Fiji for a life of service.
