Reynolds Recognizes Ohio Teacher of the Year

State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) honored Mark Lowrie, who has been named the 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year. Lowrie, a broadcast journalism teacher at Gahanna Lincoln High School in the Gahanna-Jefferson Public School District, was recognized for his dedication and impact on his students.

Senator Reynolds praised Lowrie's ability to inspire his students and challenge them in the classroom. She stated, "He loves preparing them for the real world and future careers no matter what path they choose in life. Mr. Lowrie truly exemplifies what an outstanding teacher and role model should be for our next generation, making him incredibly deserving of this honor."

With a career in TV newsrooms prior to teaching, Lowrie has been sharing his expertise in broadcast journalism for the past two decades. Joining Gahanna Lincoln High School four years ago, Lowrie has transformed the broadcast journalism program into a thriving and successful one. In just three years, enrollment in the program has skyrocketed from 27 students to over 130.

Lowrie's students have achieved remarkable national recognition for their work. They have secured seven National Student Production Awards and an impressive 79 regional Student Production Awards, also known as Student Emmys. Last year, his students were at the forefront, winning three student Emmy Awards, including Best Newscast. Additionally, they were honored with the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Award, which recognizes the top four broadcast programs in the country.

Mark Lowrie's commitment and dedication to his students have not gone unnoticed. Senator Reynolds' recognition highlights his exceptional teaching abilities and his impact on shaping the future of his students. As the 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year, Mark Lowrie serves as an inspiration to educators across the state, showcasing the importance of a dedicated and passionate teacher in the lives of students.
