Ohio Wesleyan 78, Wooster 39

Junior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) tallied 7 points during the first quarter to help Ohio Wesleyan build a double-digit lead, and the Bishops went on to record a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Wooster had taken a 3-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Shalen Guilliams, but Denison answered with a basket and junior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) followed with a hoop to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay.

The Fighting Scots were still within 10-7 after a pair of Ella Biondi free throws midway through the opening quarter, but Denison buried a 3-pointer and Schipfer followed with a pair of free throws to cap a 9-2 run that gave the Bishops a 19-9 lead with seconds remaining in the period.

Ohio Wesleyan pulled away with a 20-3 run during the third quarter, with Schipfer starting the run with a free throw and adding a basket later, and sophomore guard Kelsey Wolfe (Apple Creek/Waynedale) burying the second of a pair of 3-pointers to close it out as the Bishops stretched a 38-22 lead into a 58-25 cushion.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Denison and sophomore post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) each finished with 12 points, and junior guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) dished out 9 assists.
