Wooster Downs Men's Basketball in Battle of NCAC Unbeatens

Wooster 73, Ohio Wesleyan 52

Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) converted a 3-point play to give Ohio Wesleyan the lead midway through the first half, but Wooster retook the lead and pulled away with a 9-0 run to record a win in a battle of North Coast Athletic Conference unbeatens on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Clement's 3-point play gave the Bishops a 17-16 lead with 11:07 left in the first half, but Wooster countered with a Najee Hardaway lay-in on its ensuing possession to take the lead for good.  A Clement jumper made it a 26-23 game at the 3:45 mark of the half, but the visitors went on a 9-0 run that included a 3-point play by Hardaway, taking a 35-23 lead on Nick Everett's putback with 1:34 remaining.

Junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) drilled a 3-pointer and Clement converted a 3-point play to bring the Bishops within 35-29 at the break, and Ohio Wesleyan was within 42-38 after a fast-break lay-in by Clement with 15:38 left in regulation time.

The Fighting Scots pulled away with a 19-3 run, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Elijah Meredith and a 3-point play from Turner Kurt and holding the Bishops without a basket for more than 8 minutes.

Clement drove for a lay-in with 7:36 to play and followed with a 3-pointer to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 61-46, but that was as close as the Bishops would come.

Clement led the Bishops with 21 points and 4 assists, while senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) finished with 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
