The Kent State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 18-25) loss at first-place Ball State on Friday night.
The Golden Flashes (13-13, 4-11 MAC) were led offensively by freshman Mackenzie McGuire, who posted a match-high 13 kills. Graduate student Alex Haffner totaled 25 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
Junior Bryn Roberts had 12 digs to lead Kent State's defense. Graduate student Erin Gardner added 10 digs.
How it Happened… Set 1: Kent State started strong and led 6-3 following a kill by Sadie Wright. Ball State was able to take the lead shortly after, and the Golden Flashes got within 15-13 on a kill by Mackenzie McGuire. The hosts answered with a 10-6 run to close out the set.
Set 2: The Cardinals limited Kent State's ability to make runs by going 15-of-17 on sideout opportunities.
Set 3: The Flashes fell behind 6-1 early. Despite limiting Ball State to a .265 hitting percentage in the set, Kent State was unable to trim its deficit to fewer than three points.
